Studs are used to help your horse from slipping especially when you are competing. Different studs are available to cater for the different ground conditions. Studs can either be used on just the outside of the hoof or on both outside and inside. You need to have the farrier fit shoes with stud holes. To avoid the stud holes from getting filled up with mud and debris there are stud plugs to fill the hole when they are not in use. These stud plugs can either be rubber, cotton or screw in, and can be removed using a horse shoe nail or Allen key before fitting studs. There are various tools to put your horses' studs in place; the Weatherbeeta stud kit contains a range of studs and accessories in a handy plastic carrying case. Sometimes the threads in the stud hole needs cleaning out to enable the studs to be fitted easily, there is a wire brush that will help you do this, and the Stromsholm spanner tap will clean out the threads easily. It also has various cut outs and holes suitable to use to screw in the stud.
