Horse Licks are a very useful addition to your horse's diet containing essential salts and minerals. Trace minerals are now universally recognised as being essential in the horse's diet, and so if he has free access to these in his lick then he can have them when he needs them. There are various licks available for your horse for use in different circumstances. For example when a horse is stabled for any length of time boredom can be a major problem, as in nature a horse roams and grazes moving all the time, when he is confined problems can develop such as windsucking, weaving or chewing wood because the horse becomes stressed. Licks are often incorporated in a toy to hang, so that it keeps the horse busy getting at them. Other licks are available in a block to attach to the horses stable wall or in a tub where he can have it in his feed bowl or manger. There are also licks that you can have in the field; horses sometimes show signs of a mineral deficiency by licking the soil or eating it. Respiratory licks will also benefit a stabled horse as the dust and mites often cause irritation to the horse's airways, these respiratory licks contain menthol and eucalyptus.
