"Good Doers" is a term to describe a horse or pony that is prone to weight gain. Most Good Doers are native types, such as cobs and many ponies are often Good Doers, who need lower calorie feeds.
A Good Doers diet should mainly consist of forage such as hay or haylage, but as these do not include the essential vitamins and minerals they also require, a suitable feed or supplement should also be fed.
When choosing a feed for your Good Doer, make sure it is low in starch and sugar as these provide fast releasing energy in large quantities and will promote weight gain. Look out for high fibre complete feeds such as a "High Fibre Cube" or blend of cubes and chaff like "Happy Hoof". When fed at recommended levels these feeds provide a balanced diet with all the important vitamins and minerals.
