There are a wide range of Body Protectors to suit all shapes and sizes. They can be zip fronted or tabard style, but the vital thing is to get a good fit both in length and width. If a body protector does not fit properly, for example it may touch the back of the saddle when riding, it could push upwards making it very uncomfortable for the wearer and also it would not give the same level of protection. Body Protectors are designed to absorb impact if you fall or are kicked by a horse, and are categorised in different levels of protection by BETA (British Equestrian Trade Association) Level 1 being the lowest level of protection, Level 2 for low risk protection, Level 3 the highest, this Level 3 is used for all competitions and is compulsory at some jumping competitions. The Kite mark symbol on body protectors signifies that it has been tested by the British Standards Institution to the highest standard.
